Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican Patriarch, believed that the messiah would be fulfilled in a black man whom he believed to be the newly crowned King of Ethiopia.  He encouraged his followers to apply Revelation 5:5 to him as the "Lion of the Tribe of Judah" and the title "king of kings."  The Ethiopian flag depicted a lion with a crown and a scepter with a cross on it in his honor.
