           In order to survive the blow of Russell’s failed predictions, the WTS changed the year for the start of the "invisible presence of Christ" from 1874 to 1914. In other words, they "slid" the start of this event forty years ahead and also said that the "time of the end" began in this year along with the separating or harvesting work that Russell wrote so much about. In order to keep Russell from looking so much like a failure, they developed what we call the ‘sliding date" method.
