               The Watchtower Society teaches that the “beast that was” is the League of Nations that came into being in 1920 after World War I ended.  In 1939 with the advent of World War II, the League plunged into the abyss of inactivity becoming the beast “that is not.”  At the end of World War II, the beast “that is yet present” or that “came out of the abyss” is the United Nations and replaced the League of Nations.
