           Jesus certainly would not have advocated the extreme view of the Pharisees to his disciples. At Matthew 5:20 he said this of them: "For I say to you that is your righteousness does not abound more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter into the kingdom of the heavens." Therefore, his words found at Matthew 7:12 show how we should treat all people. It says, in part: "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." Jesus prescribed the merciful course and we should imitate him today. (Matthew 5:7)
