Because of his envy of David, Saul mistreated him, chasing him away from his home forcing him to hide in caves and in the wilderness. He then chased after him so that he could kill him. In spite of knowing that he had done no wrong deserving of this kind of treatment, David never lifted a hand against Saul. He patiently endured Saul’s bad treatment of him even though he knew that he was Jehovah’s choice for king of Israel. Twice when he had the opportunity to kill Saul, he refused to do so.
