Although Jehovah's Witnesses were guilty of sin before, they officially fell into serious NATIONAL "APOSTASY" against Jehovah with the beginning of their secret affiliation as NGO supporters of the United Nations. This began in 1991, when they submitted their application to the United Nations to become such. As many Jehovah's witnesses who are online know, there is much more to being an NGO than simply carrying that title, since it involves supporting the unholy organization by disseminating pro-UN propaganda thru their publications. The Watchtower fully complied, and were appointed NGOs for the United Nations Organization for nearly ten years. (The WTBTS disassociated from the UN October 8th, 2001.)
By becoming NGOs, or "non governmental organizations" for the United Nations Organization, they broke the Christian Covenant with Jehovah God in two main ways. First, they broke their original dedication and allegiance to the covenant made with Jehovah in 1931, when taking God's Name upon themselves. However, in addition, Jehovah's Witnesses also broke their "sworn oath" to Jehovah. How so?
Well, if you are familiar with Jehovah's witness conventions, you'll see that from time to time, they like to make resolutions to be adopted and agreed upon by all in attendance. In 1963, they did just that, in which it was agreed upon in resolution, in effect, a sworn oath that they would never join the United Nations in any way. This resolution was recorded and published in the Watchtower of November 15, 1963 fittingly entitled "The Resolution". Paragraph 5 reads:
"THAT, in order to prevent the destruction of the nations by their own means in war, the nations further refused the surrender of their sovereignty to God's Messianic kingdom by setting up a society of nations, which, since 1945, has taken the form and the name of the United Nations, with international headquarters at New York city. This international organization stands for world sovereignty by political men. For years men without faith in God's kingdom have endeavored to get all people to worship this international image of human political sovereignty as the best hope for earthly peace and security, in fact, the last hope for humanity. To date 111 nations have given worship to this political image by becoming members of it. However, we, as witnesses of the Sovereign God Jehovah, will continue refusing to engage in such idolatrous worship, for we see, under angelic enlightenment, that God has smitten such idolaters with a malignant ulcer, symbolically speaking, that will spell death to them as spiritually diseased image worshipers who worship a man-made political creation rather than the Creator of heaven and earth"
Notice that at this time, the Watchtower fully recognized association and support of the UN means Idolatry! So from this, we can most definitely see that they broke their SWORN OATH to Jehovah. This is just as bible prophecy foresaw matters. Ezekiel 16:59 reads:
"For this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said, 'I also must do with you just as you have done, because you despised the oath in breaking [my] covenant."
While Jehovah's Witnesses have been on a lawless course for years, it was the affiliation with the UN that finally made them fully "apostate" in God's eyes, like ancient Israel. (Isaiah 10:6) After 70 years of Declaring Jehovah's Name, He made an inspection of his people, and in October of 2001, and regrettably found them in Apostasy . So, Jehovah turned His favor away from His people, allowing the Watchtower to be pubicly proven as liars and traitors to their faith.
